Jugal Hansraj defends Ibrahim Ali Khan, Khushi Kapoor amid Nadaaniyan backlash: ‘Personal attacks are not cool’

The recently released film Nadaaniyan has been widely mocked online, with social media users criticizing Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor’s acting, as well as the film’s dialogue. In response, Jugal Hansraj, who portrayed Ibrahim’s father in the movie, has stepped forward to defend the newcomers.
In an interview with India Today Digital, Jugal addressed the backlash Khushi and Ibrahim faced after the film’s release.
He emphasized the importance of constructive criticism, stating, “If someone with knowledge or experience in cinema provides feedback on what worked and what didn’t, that’s valuable. But on social media, I see a lot of personal attacks, which aren’t criticism—they’re just petty and silly. I can say something didn’t work for me, but some people act as if they know everything.”
Jugal also pointed out how social media has intensified scrutiny on young actors, saying, “In the ’80s, new actors had space to grow without the pressure of social media. We all had our awkward moments, but we weren’t subjected to such harsh scrutiny. Now, young actors—not just these two—are constantly in the spotlight. Personal attacks are unfair. If you have constructive feedback, share it, but comments about appearance become messy and unnecessary. I don’t support that kind of criticism.”
