Job Overview

To assist with the execution of a short film made for a community-based event in the Greater Toronto Area, we are seeking an enthusiastic and meticulous Assistant Director (Intern). As an AD intern, you will be crucial to the management and organization of the movie set, guaranteeing a seamless workflow and prompt realization of the director’s vision.

Working with seasoned creatives in a fast-paced production setting, this is an experiential opportunity to learn about the entire range of set coordination, scheduling, and team communication.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the director in carrying out the imaginative plan.
  • Assist in set management to guarantee that scenes are shot effectively.
  • Observe the shooting schedule and the continuity of the script.
  • Interact with departments and help coordinate talent.
  • The ideal applicant:
  • Excellent time-management and leadership abilities
  • Passionate about storytelling and directing
  • knowledgeable about shot planning and script breakdowns (a plus)

Requirements

  • Working on a movie or media project in the past (academic or independent level acceptable)
  • Knowledge of set operations and production workflows
  • Capacity to multitask while preserving order in changing situations
  • Availability for flexible work schedules, including weekends and evenings
  • Excellent planning abilities and dependability
  • While not required, a degree in media, film, or a similar discipline is advantageous.

Bonus Skills (Preferred but Not Required)

  • Safety instruction or first aid
  • knowledge of programs such as StudioBinder, Celtx, or Movie Magic Scheduling
  • familiarity with production permits or union regulations
  • Communication abilities in two or more languages
